2014: Year of Turing

2012 saw a wide range of worldwide events in the 100th anniversary year of Alan Turing's birth:

Turing's legacy has been far reaching and influenced many, among them

a) Lord Sharkey's and John Leech's successful campaign which led to a pardon for  Alan Turing granted on Her Majesty's Command on Christmas Eve 2013:

In 2014, the 60th anniversary year of Turing's unpropitious death before his 42nd birthday, has already heralded a number of momentous reminders of Turing's genius:

i) 'Alan Turing: His Life and Impact' - edited by S. Barry Cooper and Jan van Leeuwen - won the prestigious R.R. Hawkins award in the 2013 Prose Awards ceremony in Washington DC in February 2014, also winning in the physical sciences and mathematics categories:

ii) The 2014 UK Budget saw Chancellor of the Exchequer announce a new and world-class Turing Institute to study big data / data science:
